"I Want to Get Older"
a poem
I want to get older. I want to grow tall.
I want to have birthdays and stop being small.
I don’t see why grownups complain every time
another year passes, as if it’s a crime.
They know how to figure out what they should do
to work and be strong. I have barely a clue.
But now that I think of it, grownups are bright,
but busy all day and quite cranky at night.
Kids have way more fun, and more time just for play,
and kids can ask grownups for help any day.
I want to get older, but I’ll stay between
a kid and a grownup, and stop at nineteen.
