Suzanne Werkema grew up in a small Michigan town where children had time to play.
Every summer, her family spent a week at a lakeside cottage, where each day she and her brothers gleefully proclaimed, "And just think, this is only the first (second, third) day!"
During the other fifty-one weeks, Suzanne practiced her flute, ran with the neighborhood kid-pack, read comics and Pippi Longstocking and books about animals, cooperated pretty well at school, imagined becoming a singer and artist and movie star, decided the most important word is be, collected every photo ever taken of her dog, and grew from babysat to babysitter.
Later, Suzanne earned a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in music history. She lived mostly in Michigan and Pennsylvania, where she performed historical music, tutored adult English-language learners, developed websites for small nonprofits, created stained-glass panels, traveled widely, and wrote lots of stuff - religious and secular - for kids and adults.
Throughout that time, Suzanne and her husband Tom raised two wonderful kids of their own, who in turn married wonderful partners.
Today, Suzanne and Tom live in Tennessee beside a lake. When Suzanne's not writing, traveling, enjoying family and friends, or playing in her gardens, she's planning her next video calls with the grandbabies.
